X-STREAM PRESENTS:
THE FESTIVAL OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES. DAY 6

THE POWER of POETRY by Tom Zart
Poetry is the lighthouse of life
Guiding the lost from a stormy sea.
Without its presence darkness prevails
Keeping us from all we can be.
Poems are used to convey passion
By poets of both good and evil mood.
Some are hateful others loving
Sharing thoughts to be consumed as food.
Verse can lead us to glory or doom
As we partake with others within.
Depicting our past, present and future
With words of man’s grace or sin.
People write poetry because they have no choice
Answering to the call of their gift.
Where some tend to pull their readers down
Others compose to give them a lift.
Always remember the power of poetry
Is used by both heaven and hell.
It’s up to us to choose our pleasure
As poetry remains alive and well.
Are you keen on poetry? Are you good at reciting poems? The Contest “The World Is Full of Poetry!” was just for you on Saturday (the 16th of February)! Don’t you know that Poetry opens the mind, lends grace to wisdom and makes the heroic virtues hereditary?
It would be absolutely impossible for us to fully comprehend love, harmony, truth, logic, peace, and wisdom if it was only presented in dry, scholarly explanations. We also need the poetic, free-spirited, creative, talented, verse-full, and imagery-based forms of explanation in the form of poetry and prose in order to deepen everything into feeling-forms and feeling-based experiences of the so-called “heart-based knowing”.
The purpose and function of poetry is really to make “higher, nobler thoughts” come down within arm’s reach.
Poetry is important because it forces us to slow down and empty our heads, in order to receive the words which turn into thoughts, which evoke feelings, which reveal truth and beauty. Poetry treasures are yours alone. And, no doubt, you can share them with everyone.
Our pupils are brilliant at reciting poems in English! Our Contest ‘The World Is Full of Poetry proved it on Saturday!
What’s a Poem? By Charles Ghigna
A whisper,
a shout,
thoughts turned
inside out.
A laugh,
a sigh,
an echo
passing by.
A rhythm,
a rhyme,
a moment
caught in time.
A moon,
a star,
a glimpse
of who you are.
